What Mailroom doesn’t do yet
Schedule send, templates, rules, POP3 and the rest, and what to use meanwhile.
Mailroom is young, and some things aren’t there yet. Here’s what people ask about, and what to do meanwhile.
- Schedule send and templates: not yet.
- Rules and filters: set them up on your mail provider’s website, such as Gmail filters or Outlook rules. They run on the server, so they keep working with Mailroom.
- Out-of-office replies: turn them on in your mail provider’s settings. They work while Mailroom is closed, too.
- POP3 and Exchange: Mailroom uses IMAP. Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 work: see Outlook.com and Microsoft 365. An Exchange server at work works if IMAP is turned on there; Exchange Web Services and ActiveSync don’t.
- PGP or S/MIME encryption, and read receipts: not supported.
- Exporting or backing up mail: your mail lives on your mail server, and Mailroom keeps an encrypted copy on your Mac. To export everything, use your provider’s export, such as Google Takeout. File › Save As… saves one message as an .eml file.
- Contacts from Gmail or Outlook: not yet. iCloud and Fastmail contacts sync, and contacts can be kept on your Mac.
- Blocking a sender: move their mail to Junk, or block the address on your provider’s website.
- Other languages: Mailroom is in English, but it can translate a message for you.
- Windows, iPhone and Android: Mailroom is for Mac only.
If something here matters to you, email about it. Requests decide what comes next.
