Outlook.com and Microsoft 365

Outlook needs Sign in with Microsoft, through an app you register.

Microsoft only lets mail apps into Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live and Microsoft 365 accounts with Sign in with Microsoft. Passwords don’t work for them.

Sign in with Microsoft goes through an app you register with Microsoft yourself. It’s free, takes about 10 minutes, and only once:

  1. Open the Microsoft Entra admin center and choose New registration.
  2. For who can use it, pick accounts in any organizational directory and personal Microsoft accounts.
  3. Add the redirect URI http://localhost, as Public client/native (mobile & desktop).
  4. Copy the Application (client) ID. In Mailroom, open Settings › Accounts, and under Sign in with Google, Microsoft or Yahoo, click Set Up… next to Microsoft and paste it. There’s no secret.
  5. Choose Mailroom › Add Account…, pick Outlook.com or Hotmail (or Microsoft 365), and click Sign in with Microsoft.

Your browser opens Microsoft’s sign-in page; Mailroom never sees your password. Work and school accounts may need an administrator to allow the app.

For the calendar, see Outlook Calendar.
