Help · Accounts and sign-in

Sign in with Google, Microsoft or Yahoo

Register your own free app with the provider, once.

Instead of a password, an account can sign in on the provider’s own page, through an app you register with the provider. Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 need this, and so do Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar.

Open Settings › Accounts, scroll to Sign in with Google, Microsoft or Yahoo, and click Set Up… next to the provider. Mailroom shows the steps, and links to the right page.

Google (about 10 minutes, in Google Cloud Console): make a project, turn on the Gmail API (and the CalDAV API for Google Calendar), set up the consent screen for External users with yourself as a test user, then create a client of type Desktop app and copy its ID and secret into Mailroom. While your app is in Testing, Google signs you out every 7 days; publishing it keeps you signed in. Google will warn that the app isn’t verified, which is fine for your own.

Microsoft: see Outlook.com and Microsoft 365.

Yahoo: Yahoo only approves some apps for mail. An app password is simpler.

Mailroom is applying for its own Google sign-in, so this step won’t be needed for Gmail later.
